This past weekend I traveled to Austin for Paleo F(x). This is my second year attending the conference (Here’s my recap of Paleo F(x) 2013) and I always come back with a head full of new knowledge and desperately needing some extra sleep and more veggies.
It’s so much fun to catch up with friends I mostly only get to hang out with online. One of the first things we did was get together for brunch at 24 Diner : From left Amanda, me, Lindsey from Homemade Mommy, Rachel, Arsy from Rubies and Radishes, Kristen from Food Renegade and Vanessa from Healthy Living How To. I had the eggs benedict (hold the bread) and a side of bacon and spinach and plenty of coffee with heavy cream. So delicious.
In fact, that pretty much sums up the weekend. Food and friends. I ran my mouth so much I was hoarse by the end of the weekend.
We stopped by Picnik Austin a couple times. This joint makes me want to move to Austin tomorrow. From left: Karen from Holistically Engineered, Lindsey from Homemade Mommy, me, Arsy from Rubies and Radishes, Naomi from Picnik Austin, and Katja from Savory Lotus. Yes, Naomi is smiling and or laughing pretty much all the time. Loved meeting her!
Believe it or not we did actually make it to the conference (Arsy, Emily from Holistic Squid and me)
Some of my favorite talks I attended were:
The healthcare panel with Robb Wolf, Darryl Edwards and Charles Mayfield.
Chris Kresser who talked about “how to win an argument with a paleo critic” and was an absolute hoot.
Kyle Maynard talking about “first world problems and the lost art of grit”. I dare you to come up with excuses after listening to this guy.
His girlfriend, Dr. Lauren Noel, is also awesome. She was my roomie at AHS last year and is my naturopathic doctor.
I loved chatting with Robb Wolf again (read: stalking until he had no choice but to talk to me). His talk on brain injury went completely over my head I must admit.
I watched several of my friends’ cooking demos. They rocked it, despite a few technical difficulties:
Mickey from Autoimmune Paleo, author of the just released Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook:
Arsy from Rubies and Radishes, author of the just released The Paleo Foodie Cookbook and her previous book, The Paleo Slow Cooker:
Pete from Pete’s Paleo (the world’s best bacon), and author of the upcoming Paleo By Season Cookbook:
Simone from Zenbelly, author of the upcoming, The Zenbelly Cookbook:
I managed to steal Laura’s baby. Don’t worry I gave him back. Laura runs Our Full Plate. I vote she changes her name to Our Overflowing Plate. 🙂
And of course the weekend would not have been complete without a stop to Lick, the grass fed ice cream shop with Emily of Holistic Squid. It was absolutely delicious.
There’s so much more I could say! And so many more pics I’d wish I’d taken.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s Paleo F(x).
If you didn’t attend but want to catch some of the talks, they’ll be made available on demand very soon here.
Did you attend? What was your favorite part of the weekend?
