When I first started Paleo, I’m not gonna lie, those first 30 days sure felt like a “diet”: cravings, restrictions, changes… discomfort. That said, I was never hungry since I didn’t limit quantities so that was nice for a change. The results in just 30 days were so significant that I was sold on this as my new lifestyle.
So, I don’t consider it a diet- it’s just the way I live.
That said, I recently completed Balanced Bites’ 21 Day Sugar Detox and it gave me a kick in the pants, no doubt. Even after a year of eating 90% paleo and 100% gluten free, I felt the need to “reset” my taste buds and my habits since the paleo treats have a tendency to creep from occasional to staples in my house. I struggle with some emotional eating habits and an addictive personality (there’s lots of addiction in my genes) and have been known to hit the dark chocolate pretty hard.
So, I do consider the 21 Day Sugar Detox to be diet-like and will probably do it once a year or as often as I feel I need a check in. I did level 3 and definitely experienced some withdrawal symptoms (headaches, break outs) but it was so worth it. By the end the allowed green apple tasted like pure sugar and my desire and even tolerance for sweets had drastically decreased. It’s also incredibly useful if you struggle with yeast/candida overgrowth. I highly recommend enlisting a friend if you’re going to do it. I did it with my friend, Mani, and I really don’t think I could have done it without the accountability and person to rant to when I just wanted a dang piece of watermelon. The Facebook page is also a great resource if you have questions or need support during the program. Its open to anyone whether you’ve purchased the program or not so feel free to stalk it if you’re just curious…
If you’re struggling with sugar cravings, whether you eat a paleo diet or not, I highly recommend the program. It’s just 3 weeks and it’s likely to change your life.
